While in Australia for the two friendly matches against Australian team Socceroos, the Greek National Football team attended an honorary ceremony at the Greek Community Center, organized by the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria.

The football players and the team’s coach Michael Skibbe, along with EPO’s chairman Giorgo Gkirtziki, were awarded by the president of the Greek Community Vasili Papastergiadi, in presence of the MP of Cultural Affairs of Victoria, Robin Skott and the Consul General of Greece in Victoria, Christina Simantiraki.

The event took place in front of hundreds of Greek expatriates and young children, who had the chance to take a photo with the players and get autographs.

In his short speech, Giorgos Gkirtzikis highlighted that “on behalf of Hellenic Football Federation, the players, the coaching staff and the team’s escorts, I would like to thank you for the energetic presence that you gave here today and it is expected of you to have the same at the stadium. There are the men who make Greece proud when they compete in Europe and all around the world. I promise you that soon the Greek National team will come again to Australia, because the Hellenism here needs it.”
