Greece Still Among Australians’ Favorite Travel Destinations

A new survey regarding Australians preferences in vacation destinations showed that the most visited countries are Greece, Spain and Italy. The survey, conducted by Webjet Australia, a travel booking website, was based on bookings between January and August 2014, as well as between January and August 2015, noted the International Business Times.

In detail, Greece was placed first on the list with 162% year-over-year increase in bookings and it was followed by Spain (107%) and Italy (91%).

“With improved connections worldwide from ports like Abu Dhabi and Dubai, it is now much easier, direct and cost-effective for Australians to travel to Europe’s less traveled destinations,” Webjet Australia chief executive John Guscic told the International Business Times.

Furthermore, the survey revealed several surprise destinations, such as Cambodia, which recently became a favorite destination for Australians, showing a 63% growth in year-on-year bookings. Webjet noted that the people in Australia are trying to stay away from conventional “exotic” destinations, such as Bali and Thailand, thus increasing their booking to destinations such as Cambodia.

Meanwhile, Australia’s improved ties with Fiji opened up another big tourism market in the foreign country. However, Fiji’s authorities have made it clear that they are planning on focusing their efforts in attracting even more tourists from Australia.
