Australian Prime Minister Has a Blast at Greek Festival

greek-festival (2)Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull made his first official appearance at the Gold Coast Greek Festival in Queensland. According to the Australian newspaper The Gold Coast Bulletin, the Prime Minister was received like a “superstar” at the event.

The event is organized by the Parish of Agia Anna and welcomed over 20,000 visitors this year. The Gold Coast Greek Festival is established as one of Gold Coast’s largest community events, showcasing vibrant Greek culture.

According to the Greek Diaspora newspaper Neos Kosmos, Turnbull stayed almost two hours at the venue, talking with young Greek children, taking photographs will numerous Greek-Australians and tasted the traditional food prepared by the Diaspora members.

Furthermore, he gave a speech expressing his appreciation for the Greek community in Australia. “I love everything about Greek culture,” he stressed while addressing the crowd.

The Prime Minister, as well as the state and federal MPs, Gold Coast mayor Tom Tate and other officials were welcomed by the honorary consul of Greece and president of the Community of Agia Anna Jim Raptis.
