Sydney fashion designer Marzena Karellas, 35, has been accused of stabbing her Greek-Australian ex-husband Andrew Karellas multiple times in the neck, shoulder and chin. The pregnant woman allegedly used her four-year-old son as an excuse to entice her ex-husband to her home in Sydney, on Thursday September 3.
Upon his arrival at the house she proceeded to cover his face with a towel and stab him. The six-month pregnant fashion designer pleaded not guilty to recklessly causing grievous bodily harm on Wednesday, September 9, and was released on bail, under strict curfew conditions.
The Daily Telegraph reported that Karellas came to his ex-wife’s home under the impression that his son had a present for him. “He had just returned from overseas,” magistrate John Favretto said. “She asked him to close his eyes and put a towel over his face. Then he experienced a sensation and it was the sensation of blood.”
Andrew Karellas was rushed to the hospital and is currently in the intensive care unit fighting for his life. Marzena Karellas has been restricted from going within 500 meters of her ex-husband and she is required to stay within the confines of her home between 8 pm and 6 am until her hearing next Tuesday.
The couple had married in 2010 and separated in 2013, finalizing their divorce just last year.
