Greek-Born Sydney Runner Wins ’41st Annual City To Surf’ Marathon

Karimali-PoulosGreek-born Sydney runner Magda Karimali-Poulos was the first to cross the finish line at the beachside suburb of City Beach, in Perth, Australia, during the “41st annual City to Surf” marathon, taking out the women’s crown in 2:58:48.

The second woman to finish the marathon distance in Perth was Nera Jareb with a time of 3:01:36, while Rolenda Georgie was third in 3:03:35.

“I had some problems in the last couple of weeks with a sore back so I am very pleased with that win,” Karimali-Poulos commented when asked about her marathon success.

Japanese runner Yuki Kawauchi won the “41st annual City to Surf” marathon in the category of men, after crossing the finish line in 2hrs, 16min and 23sec, leading the whole way.

Irish-born Chris O’Neil followed minutes later winning the second place with a time of 2:35:49, while Justin Kelly came in third at 2:47:58.

The “41st annual City to Surf” event began at 6:00 am (Australian Western Standard Time) from Saint George’s Terrace, while it hosted around 40,000 athletes.
