The Australian Calls for Sinodinos’s Return to Government

arthur-sinodinosIn a recent article the newspaper The Australian published by Rupert Murdoch is calling for the reinstatement of Greek-Australian politician Arthur Sinodinos, in the Tony Abbott government. The article stressed that Abbott’s government is losing ground therefore the return of the Liberal Greek-Australian senator would provide credibility and vision.

Senator Sinodinos used to work as former Prime Minister John Howard’s chief of staff for over ten years and is considered to have played a key role in the government’s success. When Tony Abbott was elected Prime Minister, Sinodinos was appointed Deputy Treasurer but was forced to resign after it was made public the he was allegedly involved in scandal, for which he was later acquitted.

Sinodinos criticized Abbott’s governing ways and spearheaded the movement to double the Prime Minister position. However, despite the fact that Australian media insist that it is only a matter of time until Abbott is overthrown, polls shows a rise in the popularity of the ruling Liberal-National coalition. According to a poll conducted by Fairfax Ipsos, the government’s popularity increased by 3% reaching a total of 49% compared to the Labour Party’s 51%.

Abbott insists that he will not be replaced, but the party’s senior officials have reportedly discussed the possibility of replacing the Prime Minister in the near future, considering that the government cannot continue operating smoothly due to the constant instability and uncertainty.

The hostile climate against Prime Minister Tony Abbott has intensified due to the business sector’s strong reaction, with some of the country’s top entrepreneurs declaring their doubt about the party’s leadership publicly.
