Mykonos: Second Most Popular Destination for Australians 2015

mykonos-windmillsMykonos is the second most popular destination for Australians who are planning on traveling in 2015, according to a survey conducted by Skyscanner.

The travel industry giant, recorded all the destinations that people are searching for through the company’s website. According to the results, the most popular destination that Australians are planning on visiting in 2015 was Myanmar, while Mykonos came in second, followed by Iceland, Brazil, Panama, New Caledonia, Seoul in South Korea, Colombo in Sri Lanka, Nicaragua and Okinawa in Japan.

The Greek island of Mykonos is mostly known abroad for its nightlife and extreme partying, however, the island has a unique beauty, featuring 18th century architecture and rows of fishing houses, and white-washed buildings.

Once more, Mykonos has come to the center of attention for many tourists, especially after many celebrities, such as Lindsay Lohan, Naomi Campbell and footballer Ronaldo, visited the island over the last summer. In fact, Mykonos was promoted as a cheaper and more fun version of Ibiza.

According to Skyscanner’s Market Development Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Dave Boyte: “Skyscanner’s more than 30 million searches to the site every month worldwide means we can predict with some confidence the kind of travel trends we’ll see in 2015. We have also conducted further research looking at other factors that stimulate interest in a destination, like festivals, new hotels and infrastructure improvements. The result is a robust picture of the hottest destinations for Aussies next year and hopefully something to inspire travelers around the country.”
