Award for Greek-Australian Architectural Company

australia-steel-construcctionGreek-Australian company Structural Challenge, from the University of Monash in Melbourne, has been named best architectural company of the year in Victoria and Tasmania by the Australian Institute of Steel Construction.

The company was awarded for a pioneering steel construction, not only on an architectural but also structural level.

Structural Challenge, headquartered in the Melbourne suburb of Hallam, belongs to Greek-Australian Maria Mavrikou, who has been working in the construction field for more than 20 years.

The steel construction that earned the company the first prize is the building Green Chemical Futures, which was supposed to be mostly cement, but the ingenious and creative suggestion made by Structural Challenge impressed the owners who decided to entrust the construction to the Greek-Australian company.

Structural Challenge used steel as primary material for the construction of the multi-storey building, something that reduced manufacturing cost. At the same time, due to the demanding specifications of the new building, the company implemented innovative techniques, a fact that was later recognized by the Australian Institute of Steel Construction.
