A car crashed through the window of a Greek owned souvlaki shop in Hughsdale, Melbourne, on Monday just before 11am.

Angelo Cosmas, the Greek-Australian owner was lucky to have survived as he was inside the shop when the car crashed into his business. Thankfully, no one was injured since the shop was closed on Monday and there were no customers or staff at Gyros House.

“I’m lucky,” said Angelo Cosmas who had stepped back into the kitchen right before the accident.

According to a Melbourne Fire Brigade spokesman, “things could have been a lot worse.” The shop’s security camera recorded the car driver losing control of his vehicle and entering the bus lane. At that moment, the confused driver accidentally stepped on the gas instead of the breaks and therefore smashed through the window.

The 40-year-old driver had also been involved in a minor accident nearby just before the unfortunate incident. He was treated on scene and then taken to the hospital.

The store was insured so its Greek owner will be able to repair Gyros House. However, he will have to be out of business for at least one month since the building was declared structurally unsafe after the damages.
