Australia Gets Past Greece in U17 FIBA World Championship

Greece stumbled upon the Australian wall for the final 16, losing 84-76 and failing to reach the FIBA U17 World Championship quarter finals taking place in Dubai. The Greeks had eased through their group with two practice type wins against the Philippines and Angola, and an expected loss to World Champions USA.

The Aussies prevailed throughout the first three quarters of the game till Greece, with Antonis Koniaris as their leader (21 points), forced a comeback. With the help of the tournament’s top performer Isaac Humphries who scored 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, the kangaroos lead by 13 points (71-58) with seven minutes left in the match before the Greeks sliced it down to 78-76 with a three-pointer from Thanassis Douzidis. However some offensive mistakes in the final seconds of the game gave the win and subsequent next round qualification to Australia where they will meet Puerto Rico.
