The Greek-Cypriot Community of Melbourne participated in the commemoration march on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Turkish invasion and occupation of northern Cyprus.
The Greek Cypriot community of Melbourne gathered outside the state parliament of Victoria, on Sunday, June 20 where they gave speeches and approved the proposed resolution.
Yesterday’s march was the last in a series of events held in Melbourne, which were organized by the Coordinating Committee of Justice for Cyprus on the occasion of the sad anniversary.
Moreover, on Thursday June 17, representatives of organizations and members of the Greek Cypriot Diaspora gathered in front of the Turkish Consulate in Melbourne and protested peacefully.
With flags, banners, placards, and slogans, the protesters called for the withdrawal of the Turkish occupation troops from Cyprus. They also asked for respect of human rights of all Cypriot residents in accordance with the resolutions of the Security Council and demanded that Turkey complies with the resolutions of the United Nations and the Security Council.
