Melbourne: Maria Farantouri’s Concert Next Sunday

FarantouriA great number of Greek Australians and Australians will have the one time opportunity to enjoy a performance by Maria Farantouri at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival this Sunday.

Charles Lloyd, one of the top jazz saxophonists who has won several awards and distinctions, will accompany her on stage.

Lloyd started his career during the 60’s, following a path that established him as a great world-class jazz musician. He has remained on top of his career for more than 50 years, thanks to his passion for reaching new musical limits. He surprises his fans with new compositions and collaborations with artists from all around the world and touches their hearts with his unique interpretations. His concert with Maria Farantouri in the Odeon of Herodes Atticus in Athens, Greece in 2010, was a big success and led to new perspectives of musical expression for both artists.

After more than 10 years, the two artists will come together in Australia for the Melbourne International Jazz Festival. Their union will be a combination of jazz with classical Greek instruments. They will perform their “Greek project” at the City Hall of Melbourne this coming Sunday, and on Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at City Recital Hall in Sydney.

Their appearance was organized by the Greek Community of Melbourne and has already garnered the attention of people all around the city.

The two artists will be accompanied by pianist Takis Farazis, bassist Reuben Rogers, drummer Eric Harland and lyrist Sokratis Sinopoulos.
