Delly Carr, Best Greek-Australian Photographer

Photographer Delly CarrDelly Carr is a top Greek-Australian sports photographer who has been awarded several times for his amazing photographs.

His parents were born in Greece, his father in Kastelorizo and his mother in Syros, and they migrated to Australia as teenagers. “I was blessed to grow up as a Greek-Australian combining the best characteristics of both countries,” he said. Carr has been interested in photography since his school years. After studying Economics, he decided to devote himself to sports photography.

His talent is evident as he has received several photography awards. In the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Carr won the “Best Sports Action Photography” award and his most recent accolade was the “Best Photo 2013” by the U.S. magazine Inside Triathlon for the photo of the paratriathlete Joe Townsend during the 2013 ITU Paratriathlon World Championships in London.

Carr is also a founding member of the World Photography Academy, the only Sport Photographic Ambassador for Nikon Oceania, Creative Ambassador for Subaru Australia and Après Vélo, a cycling equipment company. Moreover, a photography exhibition presenting his best photos was organized in Trafalgar Square in London during the 2012 Summer Olympics to honor him and his work. As Carr said about the exhibition: “It was a surreal experience and one of the best moments in my career. An outdoor exhibition in one of the most emblematic places worldwide is an unbelievable reward for an artist.”

Carr has been called, among other things, a visual storyteller and that’s the only title he accepts and tries to honor everyday with his work. “I want my photographs to tell stories that will delight and charm the public,” he stressed. His secret to perfect, captivating photos is that he puts a little bit of himself in every image he captures.

He has traveled in numerous places worldwide but thinks that Sydney is the most beautiful city in the world. As for his relationship with Greece he said: “I may be born and raised in Australia but Greek blood also flows in my veins. I have visited Greece many times. When I’m there I feel deeply connected and welcomed and this feeling becomes stronger as I grow older. Greeks are creative and love good food and all kind of arts. Although it is quite difficult, when I am older I want to spend the rest of my life on a Greek island.”
