The Greek liberal Minister for Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship of Victoria, Nicholas Kotsiras is set to be replaced by Matthew Guy as the Victorian Premier Denis Napthine decided to proceed with a reshuffle of his cabinet before the elections of November, 29. The reshuffle was considered “necessary” after the retirement of four ministers.
As reported in the new Cabinet, Matthew Guy retained his portfolio as Planning Minister and added the portfolio of Multicultural Affairs and Citizenship, which was until now exercised by Nick Kotsiras. Kotsiras, has announced his decision not to claim his Bulleen seat at November’s state election.
The retiring ministers are Nicholas Kotsiras, Hugh Delahunty, Peter Hall, and Jeanette Powell. Tim Bull will take over from Powell as Minister for Aboriginal Affairs and Local Government. Damian Drum, a former Geelong footballer and Fremantle coach, will replace Delahunty as Minister for Sports and Veterans Affairs. Nick Wakeling, a former cabinet secretary, is the new Minister for Higher Education & Skills replacing Hall.
Kotsiras had announced his retirement in January at the site where his parents first arrived in Melbourne from Greece 50 years ago. The reasons of his retirement were mainly health issues and a desire to recover lost time with his family.
