Twentieth Cypriot Wine Festival in Melbourne

Cypriot Wine FestivalThe famous Cypriot Wine Festival took place on March 1 and 2 in Melbourne. The festival has been successfully organized for 20 consecutive years by the Cyprus Community of Melbourne.

This year the festival was held at South Wharf, where the Yarra River meets the port of Melbourne. The downtown view from there is really breathtaking.

Numerous Australians and Greek-Australians enjoyed a rich cultural program with local and Cypriot singers, performances by dance groups, as well as Cypriot delicacies such as seftelies and koupes and Cypriot wine.

The festival opened with the welcome speech of Jim Wood, President of the Cyprus Community of Melbourne and was also attended by several officials. Among them were the Cypriot High Commissioner to Australia, Yannis Iacovou, and the Greek-Australian MPs Maria Vamvakinou, Jenny Mikakos and John Pantazopoulos.

A special exhibition on the Cyprus Issue was also organized, in which Cypriot-Australians highlighted their continuing demand for a permanent, just and peaceful solution to the Cyprus Issue.

The Cypriot Wine Festival in Melbourne dates back to 1995. It has always had a rich cultural program with traditional flavors and activities and that is why it is so popular with Australians.
