More than 120,000 Visitors to Attend Greek Festival of Melbourne

Greek festivalIt is estimated that more than 120,000 visitors will attend the opening of the Greek Festival of Melbourne that will be taking place this weekend, February 8-9, in the center of Melbourne.

The famous Greek singer Kostas Makedonas and many additional Greek-Australian singers and bands will present an interesting music show during the weekend.

The Greek festival, which is one of the biggest multinational festivals of Melbourne, will be attended by the Australian Prime Minister, Tony Abbott; the leader of the Federal Opposition Bill Shorten; Prime Minister of Victoria, Dennis Nafthain; the Mayor of Melbourne, Robert Doyle;  the bishop Ezekiel of Dervi; the bishop Iakovos of Militoupolis and the Consul General of Greece, Christina Simantiraki.

“Mr. Abbott’s presence at our Community’s Festival reflects positively on our organization and on the Australian Government’s commitment to the contribution of Greece in multicultural Australia,” said the president of the Greek Community of Melbourne, Vasilis Papastergiadis.

“The presence of the Prime Minister and other Ministers of the government, gives us the opportunity to further develop and strengthen the relationship between the Greek Community and the federal government. It is our goal to take advantage of these events in order to highlight the cultural significance of the Greeks in this country, as well as the continuation of dialogue on other important issues,” he added.
