A Greek couple with their 5-year-old daughter have recently moved to Australia from Nafplio, Greece and are exploring the country by bike.
Dimitris, Ada and little Aphrodite arrived in Australia last October. They have chosen an alternative way of life, they use their car only if necessary, they are interested in energy-saving, they built a house without electricity and they collect rainwater.
They decided to make this extraordinary journey as they love Australia and its people. They had visited Australia three times in the past, before deciding to travel around the country with their bikes. Although they believed that the journey would be difficult with their little daughter, it turned out that for her, nothing is tough. As her parents say, she very much enjoys the experience. Placed on the back of her father’s bike, she sings, plays and sleeps on her father’s back.
What gives them strength to keep going, are the beautiful landscapes, the weather and the reactions of people who express their admiration in every way. So far they have been in Adelaide, McLaren Vale, Geelong , Melbourne, and New South Wales. However, they don’t intend to visit the remote areas of central Australia like Uluru as they believe that it would be difficult to take a child there.
Regarding the financial crisis in Greece, they believe that it is more a crisis of values. They note that what Greeks should do is to not give up, but fight and hope.
