A Historical Year for Greeks of Melbourne

Melbourne-CityThe new year will be a historic year for the Greek Community of Australia and especially Melbourne with the construction of the new Community building in the center of Melbourne, where our Cultural Center will be housed,”  stated the president of the Greek Community of Melbourne, Vasilis Papastergiadis, during the general meeting with members of the organization, on January 18.

Papastergiadis noted: “Apart from the symbolic character of the new building, the Cultural Center will be an alive and creative space that will operate on a daily basis and in which the entire community will have access.”

“We invite all the Greek organizations to work together to make our dream come true. The new building of 15 floors belongs to all the Greek organizations.” he said.

As Papastergiadis reported, the Greek cultural centre will provide classes of Greek and ancient Greek in all levels of education, as well as lectures and discussions on the Greek culture. The creation of the new Cultural Centre will give the Greek Community the unique opportunity to make political and social interventions, and to participate in political decisions that affect all the Greek Australian citizens of the multicultural country.

He finally pointed out that the Greek Community of Melbourne will collaborate with other nationalities in matters of political and cultural importance in order to draw a common policy.
