Greek-Australian Philosophy Professor Builds Homes for the Disabled

christos-iliopoulosThe Human Rights Commission of Australia gave an award to former Philosophy Professor at the University La Trobe in Melbourne Christos Iliopoulos.

Iliopoulos decided to give up his seat at the university to busy himself with the construction of homes for people with disabilities when his wife Pamela was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

The Commission on Human Rights awards are given to individuals, businesses, and organizations that act as benefactors or do a lot of charity work in order to promote the respect and understanding of the value of human rights in the Australian society.

Iliopoulos was awarded because of the housing model he created for people with disabilities. This housing model can be used by the elderly and is the only model in Australia that, according to the Commission, considers and respects the human rights of people with disabilities.
