school-children-in-classr-007After the authorization of the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA), the Greek Community of Melbourne and Victoria will be able to teach Classical Greek (Ancient Greek) Units 1-4 at VCE level. The classes will start in 2014 and address VCE students, as well as students from Year 7-10.

Students  who wish to attend these classes at VCE level are required to have studied Ancient Greek for two years prior to beginning classes at VCE level.

Theo Markos, Education Coordinator of the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne & Victoria, stated: “Education is one of the foremost priorities of the Greek Community and for many years our organisation has invested in providing support for the promotion of our language and culture. The fact that our application to teach Ancient Greek at VCE level was approved by the relevant authorities, is not only significant for our language schools but also for the Greek community at large. We are the only Greek Language School in Victoria to receive such accreditation and as of next year, our first Ancient Greek Students will undertake the subject at VCE after two years of studying the subject.”

Parents who want to register their children for Classical Greek classes can call the Community’s offices at: 9662 2722 or email education@greekcommunity.com.au
