Australia Seems Willing to Grant Visas to Greeks

Greece’s ambassador in Canberra, Haris Dafaranos had a meeting with Australian Minister for Immigration, Scott Morrison in the Australian parliament.

According to sources from the Ministry of Immigration, the meeting was “warm and genuine.” It was found, among other things, that there is “a common ground between Greece and Australia concerning an interstate agreement about tourist visas with the right to work.”

These granted visas will last for 12 months and concern 18-30 year-old Greeks, who during this time have the right to work and study in Australia.

However, the Australian Council of Trade Unions (ACTU), recently called on the government to revise visas with the right to work, because of the high rate of unemployment among the youth.

Finally, the Australian Ministry of Immigration said that the agreement with Greece will be signed in the first semester of 2014.
