According to the court’s decision, the 46-year-old Vicky Sotiriou is guilty for conspiring to kill her husband (on his birthday), with her lover Aris Dimitrakis. She is sentenced to 12 years imprisonment and has been in prison since November 2011.
Vicky Soteriou’s appeal was rejected by the Melbourne court.
Soteriou had denied any involvement in the attempted murder of her husband, testifying in court that her lover Aris Dimitrakis had strange behavior because of his jealousy.
During the trial, Dimitrakis’ testimony solidified that Soteriou had full knowledge of the extermination plan of her husband, and that a few hours before the assassination attempt, she met with Dimitrakis to give him the knife that was to be used to kill her husband.
The attempted murder of Chris Soteriou rocked the Greek community of Melbourne because the pair Sotiriou seemed happy and there were no apparent problems in their marriage.The husband Chris Soteriou had stated in court, that was inconceivable to him that his wife was planning his murder. Dimitrakis has been in prison over five years.
