Confrontation Between Turkey and N.S.Wales for the Recognition of Genocide

greek pontian genocideThe Prime Minister of New South Wales, Barry O’Farrell declared that the threats of Turkey’s President of Parliament are unacceptable and reprehensible. The Turkish President of Parliament, Cemil Çiçek, asked not to allow members of the state to attend the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli which will take place in 2015.

Last May, the Parliament of New South Wales recognized the genocide of Greeks, Armenians and Assyrians by the Ottoman Empire.

O’Farrell, with a written announcement, declared that the threats of the Turkish President of Parliament are reprehensible. He also asked the Turkish officials not to use the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Gallipoli, for their political purposes.

Meanwhile, it was revealed that next week, the American professor Justin McCarthy is visiting Australia. McCarthy who is a denier of the Armenian genocide and claims that it is a lie, will speak in the Federal Parliament. Many believe that his speech is organized by the Turkish lobby in Australia.
