Kevin Rudd’s Resignation from Politics and His Relationship With Greeks

Kevin Rudd, the former Prime Minister of Australia, announced his resignation from politics in an emotional speech. Rudd, who served as prime minister twice, said that he made that decision with his family. “This has been the product of much soul-searching for us as a family over the last few months,” he said, fighting back tears.

A top moment of his political career was his apology to Aboriginal Australians for the injustices of the past. He will also be remembered for the measures he took at the outbreak of the global financial crisis, in order to save Australia from entering a recession.

All these were overshadowed by the overthrow by his deputy Julia Gillard, who succeeded him as prime minister, however he was reelected, but on last September his government lost the election.

In his emotional speech, Rudd also spoke of his relationship with the Greeks. He was very close to the Greeks of Brisbane, he loves Nikos Kazantzakis and learned Greek in order to read the Bible in the language it was written.
