A Contemporary Opera About Gallipoli by Tasos Ioannidis

KalipoliThe famous Greek-Australian composer, Tasos Ioannidis, who has been living in Greece for more than a decade, is preparing a contemporary opera which will be presented in 2015 as part of events for the centenary of the Australian campaign in Gallipoli. The show will be mainly funded by the European Union. As Ioannidis said during his visit in Melbourne, this opera is a cooperation between Australia, Greece, Turkey and Cyprus, in order to complete the relevant agreements.

The title of the play is “Three Women in the War,” and according to the composer “it is a contemporary opera which will be part of the commemorative events planned for 2015, 100 years after the Battle of Gallipoli.”

“I thought that women who had also been mortally injured in that battle were often unseen–at least on the side of Australians and New Zealanders–even 16-year-old children took part.” said the composer.
