Spyros LouisThe unveiling of the statue of Spyros Louis, the legendary golden marathon runner of the Athens Olympic Games in 1896, will be held in a modest ceremony, between 9am-1pm on Friday the 25th of October, in the suburb of Berwick, Melbourne.

The statue of Spyros Louis will be placed next to the statue of another legend of that era, the first Australian Olympic champion Edwin Flack, who ran against Louis at the 1896 Olympic Games.

The initiative belongs to the Greek Organization in Support of the Olympic Spirit and Idea, whose head is Aristides Panagakis.

The statue will be represented with its classic “foustanela”.
