Dardalis Archives Available to Researchers

Dardalis Archives

The Greek Archives (Dardalis Archives) of La Trobe University, in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia will be preserved and sorted in order to be available to research scholars in and outside Australia.

This was the commitment of Professor Christopher John Mackie, head of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences in his statements after meeting with the Ambassador of Greece in Australia Charalabos Dafaranos, the Consul General of Greece in Melbourne Eleni Lianidou and the university’s Education coordinator Vasilios Gokas.

The Greek delegation praised the effort of La Trobe University to assess archival material and make it available to researchers and scholars of the history of Greek Hellenism and of the wider Hellenism of the Diaspora.

The Dardalis archive of the Greek Diaspora contains more than seven million archival documents which record the history of the Greek Diaspora in Oceania, Australasia and South America from the years 1880 and after.

The archive belonged to the National Centre of Hellenic Studies and Research of La Trobe University which closed a few years ago and now measures have been taken for the archive to be used again for research purposes.
