A Greek-Australian man, Steve Constantinou, has been accused of murdering Johanna Jazzy O Martin, escort, but claims he is innocent, despite evidence filed against him at trial.
Constantinou told the jury that he did not strangle her and that it was an accident, as they played sex games, involving erotic asphyxiation, a term he claimed he had never heard until his trial.
“It was experimenting,” he told a Supreme Court jury on August 13. “It was fun…It made her happy and it made me happy and we called it ‘sex games’,” he added.
There is evidence that Constantinou owed Martin $8500 and strangled her in a deliberate and conscious act. It is also said that after strangling her, he took jewelry that he sold for $2100. Then, he returned to his flat, wrapped the body in a sheet and dumped her in Port Melbourne before gambling at local hotels, as reported in the Herald Sun.
“It was an accident and I don’t like the fact that you are saying I killed her – I don’t like that,” Constantinou told Crown prosecutor Mark Rochford during an examination.
Constantinou has previously told the jury he thought Martin was playing a game after she collapsed flat on the bed and did not move. He said he did not call emergency services for help because he was in a state of panic, according to the Herald Sun.
However, the Crown prosecutor said that Constantinou did not look panicked or upset when captured on CCTV betting at local hotels later that day. It was also said that the victim’s last phone call was to Constantinou, that his car passed by the crime scene and that he contradicted himself and told many lies to the police during his statements.
