Greek Participation in MIFF 2013

capsule daughterIn the framework of the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) 2013, which started on July 25 and will run till August 11, two Greek films have been screened, representing the Greek cinema.

The films are, The Daughter by Thanos Anastasopoulos, and The Capsule by Athina Rachel Tsangari.

MIFF Artistic Director, Greek-Australian, Michelle Carey, talked with particularly flattering words about the Greek participation.

“During the last years, the Greek cinema has presented exceptional films,” Carey said. “The claim that the crisis has made Greeks more creative is wrong. The cinema needs the state’s financial support as well in order to develop,” she added.

Established in 1952, the Melbourne International Film Festival (MIFF) is one of the oldest film festivals in the world and the most significant screen event in Australia. An iconic Melbourne event, the festival takes place annually in the heart of the city, presenting an acclaimed screening program alongside industry and celebratory events, according to the Festival’s website.
