Carr Firm on FYROM Naming Issue

Bob_CarAustralia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bob Carr, repeated that the country’s position on the issue of the naming of FYROM remains unchanged. The Australian minister made this statement to the newspaper Neos Kosmos, after the distinction he was awarded by Skopjan organizations of the country. “We recognize the sensitivities of the Greeks. Nothing has changed,” he said.

A few days ago, the Australian minister had promised the improvement of the relations between Australia and FYROM and he was committed to visiting Skopje if the Labor Party holds on to power. However, he added that regarding the issue of the naming of FYROM, Australia is fully in line with the UNO and wants a solution to the problem through the relevant procedures.

Carr was recently attended a gala organized in Sydney by the United Macedonian Diaspora, during which he was awarded with a special prize in recognition of his efforts to upgrade the relations between the two countries.

The Co-Chairs of the Australia Macedonia Parliamentary Friendship Group, Stephen Jones, Labor MP, and Luke Simpkins, Liberal MP, were also awarded in the same event. The organizer called, among others, Australia to recognize FYROM with its constitutional name and open an Embassy in Skopje.
