Memorial for Greek Genocide Victims in NSW Parliament

c2fe79c9a878dc6c87e9fd533893306eA respectful and decent event took place at the Parliament of New South Wales to honor the memory of the Greeks of Pontus, Anatolia and Eastern Thrace.

The Pontian associations of NSW, Pontoxeniteas, Panagia Soumela and Wollongong joined forces to honor the memory of their ancestors as well as those who played a leading role in the recent resolutions that recognized the Pontian Genocide and were adopted by the Parliament of New South Wales.

All political parties were represented at the event. The Liberal Party of Australia was represented by Jonathan O’Dea and David Clarke, the Australian Labor Party by Lynda Burney and Sofia Kotsi, the Christian Democratic Party by Fred Nile and the Greens by David Shoebridge.

Representatives of the Assyrian and Jewish communities as well as members of the Australian Institute of Genocide were also present.

Consul General for Greece, Vasilios Tolios, and consul Dora Toumanidou, as well as representatives of the Central Pontian Community of Melbourne (including President Costas Andoniades and George Kovridis) were also present.
