Gaitanou’s L’isola Disabitata Gets Raves

isoladisabitataHaydn’s L’isola Disabitata (The Desert Island), directed by a 32-year old woman of Greek descent, Rodula Gaitanou, and presented at Hobart Baroque Festival in Tasmania, got glowing reviews for her work.

Australian critics wrote positively of her talent and direction in putting on the show at the Royal Opera House, which will run until April 22.

Haydn’s L’isola disabitata is the first ever performance of London’s Royal Opera House Covent Garden in Australia and was created exclusively to inaugurate the Hobart Baroque Festival.

Gaitanou has lived and worked in London over the last years. She studied musicology in Paris and Sorbonne, as well as opera staging at Paris 8 University and has already given samples of her work that have promoted particularly flattering comments from the foreign press.
