Australia Wants Skilled Greek Immigrants

Greece-AustraliaThe Council Property Owners of Australia made a proposal to the state government recommending loans and mortgages with better terms and easier rules for granting visas to Greek immigrants, particularly those with skills the country needs.

According to an article published in The Advertiser online newspaper, a request has been presented to the state government of South Australia so as to provide incentives which will aim at “attracting more skilled migrants to the region.”

Among others things proposed, are: lower interest rates on mortgages,  partial coverage of the expenses over  their relocation as well as reduction of the time required for immigrants to obtain a permanent residence permit in the country, as most of them arrive from crisis- stricken countries such as, Italy, Spain, Greece and Portugal.

The proposal also recommends the creation of a new type of visa application to speed up the procedures over the recognition of the newcomers’ degrees and qualifications, so they can sooner join the workforce of South Australia.

As highlighted, this request results from both the reduction of a qualified staff and professionals in South Australia as well as from the growing population of the state, as only within the last six months there was an increase of 16500 people, of which 11300 are immigrants who came from those countries.
