Senator Xenophon Appeals Malaysian Ban

xenophonIndependent Senator for South Australia, Nick Xenophon, of Greek descent, appealed to the Supreme Court of Malaysia, demanding the removal of the decision with which he was banned from entering the country.

Senator Xenophon claims that the government’s decision to expel him from the country, on 16 February 2013, was based on false evidence.

“I was expelled, because I spoke about the need of the human rights to be respected and of the people to vote freely in elections” said Senator Nick Xenophon and described as funny the allegation that he was expelled because he is “a national security risk for Malaysia”. He added that obviously, perhaps, he was dangerous for the government.

However, the Malaysian authorities defended their decision by saying that the Senator was making statements that “ridiculed the country’s people”.
