Greek-Australians submitted proposals on the financial support of Greece and Cyprus. The initiative taken by the Cypriot Community of New South Wales and in the presence of His Excellency, The High Commissioner for Cyprus Yiannis Iacovou, an open gathering at the Stanmore Community Center was held, which was attended by representatives of brotherhoods, associations and federations of both the Greek and Cypriot Diaspora, who are very touched by the struggle given by both countries to cope with the crisis.
The meeting was actually a discussion and exchange of opinions on practical ways to support those affected by the economic crisis.
In its announcement, the Federation of Cyprus Communities and Organizations of Australia and New Zealand, presented the following proposals adopted:
1) Financial assistance for emergencies, enhancement of the charitable work of the Holy Archbishopric of Cyprus as well as soup kitchens offered in various municipalities in Greece and Cyprus through fundraisers, concerts, theaters, aid dinners and afternoon tea lottery
2) Support of the National Solidarity Fund
3) Investments promotion
4) Pan-Australian campaigns for the promotion of Greek and Cypriot products
5) preference for vacation and tourism in Greece and Cyprus.
