Released Greek Killer Kills Again

images-21Periklis Papadopoulos, 67, killed another man over four or five tomatoes and pepper plants. He pleaded guilty for having fatally stabbed Andonios Mirtsopoulos, 72, and on April 9, was sentenced to 11 ½ years.

Supreme Court Justice, Betty King, said Papadopoulos had been convicted again in Greece back in 1992 for murdering his cousin and was sentenced to life imprisonment. She also said he behaved provocatively having planted tomatoes and peppers in the patch the victim had prepared for his own vegetables, the Herald Sun reported.

Justice King dismissed Papadopoulos’ claims that Mirtsopoulos fell and accidentally landed on the kitchen knife he was holding after slicing a pear. She found Papadopoulos had rushed towards his housemate, with whom he did not get along, and stabbed him once.

According to the Herald Sun, the third resident of the Clayton house, George Karkanis, said that after stabbing Mirtsopoulos, Papadopoulos said, “Oh, no, what have I done, I’m going to go to jail for this bastard.”

Justice King said she believed Papadopoulos was a danger to the community, having now killed two people over petty matters. He will serve a minimum of nine years before being eligible for parole.

Papadopoulos migrated to Australia in 1969, became an Australian citizen in 1974, and returned to Greece in 1978. He returned to Melbourne in 2009 without his wife and two children, having served 16 years in jail for killing his cousin.
