Sydney Greek Festival Opens

festivalThe Greek Festival of Sydney opened on March 7 at the Grand Roxy Restaurant in Brighton-Le-Sands, whose owner is Greek Vassilios Mougios. Celebrating the Greek identity and its influence on Australian culture, the Greek Festival of Sydney, which has been firmly established in Sydney’s calendar of events, is one of the largest, longest and most powerful cultural festivals of New South Wales.

The festival’s opening was attended by the President and Members of the Board of Directors of the Greek Orthodox Community of New South Wales, the Consul General of Greece in Sydney, Vassilios Tolios accompanied by his wife, His Grace Bishop Seraphim of Apollonia, distinguished guests from Greek and Australian authorities, mayors , sponsors, artists, the media and other guests.

Leader of the event was Panayiotis Dukas, a member of the Board of Directors. The event included several speeches, and abundant, delicious dishes.

“Multiculturalism is one of the greatest assets in Australia and has contributed to the rapid integration of the social groups in Australian society,” Dukas noted.

The Festival’s President, Nia Karteris referred to the importance of the benefactors’ offer. The Greek Festival’s benefactors were honored and received plaques as souvenirs for their participation and contribution to the festival.

The Greek Glenti, which is to take place on March 16 and 17 at Darling Harbour, will give visitors the opportunity to enjoy a taste of Greece with dancing and live entertainment offered by Greek singer Michalis Hatzigiannis. Rich Greek dishes and many other surprises will be in store.
