Tsiaras Optimist for Greek-Aussies Voting

TsiarasDeputy Foreign Minister for Hellenism abroad, Kostas Tsiaras, expressed his optimism that the Greeks of the diaspora will gain the right to vote in the national elections. Tsiaras has been in Melbourne since March 2, the second destination of his tour in Australia after Perth.

In a press conference given March 4 to the Diaspora media, Tsiaras said: “The emigrant Hellenism is a huge national issue, which we have to recognize, utilize and promote,  through several interactive processes and equal relationships. It is now time, Greeks Abroad offer to be recognized and based on this, we consider it necessary to strengthen ties between Greece and Greeks living abroad, including the regulation of their right to participate in the national elections. ”

Earlier he spoke to Greek organization representatives at the Greek consulate. He noted that “we target the reorganization of the Greek Diaspora through another model by adapting it to the present conditions.” Tsiaras is scheduled to visit Adelaide, Brisbane and Sydney.
