Seven Greeks are included in the list of the 150 most powerful celebrities of the Northern Territory of Australia, which was issued by the Northern Territory News journal. All of them come from Darwin, a city with a strong Greek presence.
The entrepreneurial family Paspaley is included in this list for the 15th time in a row. The Paspaleys dominate the Australian pearl farming industry. The pearls are sold under the brand name South Sea, and their company is one of the richest in Australia. Its activities include farms with cows, a local airline of 21 aircraft, a fleet of 120 fishing vessels, as well as many real estates in Sydney, Darwin and New York.
Twenty second on the list is estate manufacturer John Halikos. Andreas Liveris, who heads the American colossus Dow Chemical and serves as adviser of U.S. President Barack Obama, comes 40th, followed by Andrew Makridis, Head of the Chairman of Bovie Medical Corporation and CEO, 66th place, businessman Marc Markelis, 90th place, Dr Len Notaras, Executive Director of the National Critical Care and Trauma Response Centre in the Northern Territory at 97th place, and Greek Orthodox Priest Joel Xanthos who gets the 101st place.
