Aboriginal Student Scores Ace in Modern Greek

862141-300x225Katarina Hitchcock, a student of Aboriginal descent, made ​​history after ranking top among many students who participated in the Leaving Certificate examination of the Lyceum in New South Wales.

She managed to score the impressive degree of 97 out of a hundred in Modern Greek for beginners. According to all indications, she happens to be the first Aboriginal student in Australia to have ever learned Greek.

The girl spoke in Greek on SBS radio from the U.S., where she is currently on vacation, saying that what made her love the Greek language was reading Greek history, and added that she wants to visit Greece sometime.

Hitchcock said she wants to take classical studies at university. She highlighted that: “Greek is neither an easy nor a difficult language, but it is necessary for anyone who really wants to appreciate the Greek culture.”
