Makris Acquires Gold Coast’s Marina Mirage

marina-mirage-640pxThe richest Greek man in South Australia, Con Makris, has bought the famous Gold Coast’s Marina Mirage shopping center on Queensland’s Gold Coast for $52 million.

“The shopping center is a destination. It’s where all the top fashion designers are, the best restaurants – it’s a place for the rich and famous to shop and dine. It’s in the middle of all the five-star hotels – Palazzo Versace, the Sheraton – and they’re going to build a casino on land next to the shopping center. This is the Miami of Australia,” he said.

Makris said he also wants to create another hotel and a Greek restaurant “that no similar will exist.” According to the annual list of the 200 richest Australians, that is published by the prestigious journal BRW,  Makris and his son, Ross, have a fortune of about $1 billion and are listed among the top 30 of the country’s richest people.

Makris immigrated to Australia from Greece in 1963.He initially started a supermarket, later established chicken shops, then bought the chain of Fast Food before entering the real estate sector. He has several shopping centers such as Optus House in Adelaide and Bonnyridge Plaza in Sydney, and he is the owner of many businesses in Greece as well.

He has now created a whole empire. He said that he wants to travel more, to get to know more countries and of course to even more enjoy the Ouzo Palace, his luxurious yacht.
