An elderly Greek couple were burned alive in their house in Melbourne after police said an intruder broke into the premises and set it on fire. The victims were identified as Stavroula and Triantafillos Kanadaris.
‘We believe that it is suspicious circumstances,” a police detective said.”We believe that it was deliberately lit and we have now got to establish the cause and the circumstances surrounding this gruesome incident.”
He said that no weapons were found in the house although a bullet casing was discovered nearby, but police said they don’t think there was any connection.
”We are treating it as suspicious and we believe both people have been killed by persons or persons unknown,” the officials said. Police are seeking witnesses or anyone who might have any information.
The couple was living for 30 years in the region, regularly attended the Greek Church and were well-known in the neighborhood. Neighbors said they were shocked by the tragic deaths of the couple.
