Dafaranos to Strengthen Greek-Australian Relations

In the case of Australia’s Commonwealth Parliament, the Ambassador for Greece to Australia, Charalampos Dafaranos, briefed the Australia-Greece Advisory Council members on important strategy interest issues, such as promotion and systematic cultivation of relations between Greece and Australia.

Emphasis was given to the areas of trade, investment, tourism, culture, youth mobility as well as to the important role of supporting the Greek-Australian Diaspora, something that could benefit both countries.

The issues discussed by AGAC in its last meeting, dealt with the support of the Greek language, issues concerning the elderly and those suffering from mental problems.

As explained by the Australian politician of Greek descent, and Chair of Standing Committee on Migration, Maria Vamvakinou, members of the Committee discussed with the MP and Minister for School Education, Early Childhood and Youth, Peter Garrett, the Minister for Mental Health and Ageing, Mark Butler, and the MP and Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs in the Gillard Ministry, Jenny Macklin.

The Greek Ambassador first attended a dinner hosted by the Committee members and then the exhibition opening to honor acclaimed folk painter Theophilos Hatzimihail at the Hellenic Club of Canberra.
