Australian Federal Parliament representatives and Parliament of Victoria attended the 100th anniversay of the Chios Liberation Anniversary ceremony organized by the Chian Association of S.A Adamandios Korais.
A member of the Socialist Left faction, Maria Vamvakinou, state Liberal MP, Mari Thomson, Shadow Minister for Seniors and Aging, Shadow Minister Assisting the Leader on Children and Young Adults, Shadow Minister for Youth Justice and a Member of the Legislative Council for Northern Metropolitan Region, Jenny Mikakos and Australian Labor Party member, Jennifer Kanis were among those attending the ceremony.
The political leaders noted the anniversary and the sacrifices that people of Chios made for freedom. The liberation of Chios from the Turkish yoke in 1912 is a significant milestone in the history of Greece and came after fierce battles that people today have remembered.
