He Climbed Mt. Everest for Greece

By Danai Kanella
A Greek-Australian found a very creative, even though hard to achieve, way to protest what he felt was the humiliation of Greece by the international media during the last years and to advertise his homeland abroad: he climbed Mt. Everest.

Antonis Kontekakis, 29, said he wanted to prove that Greek people ”can manage” even the most difficult challenge, such as climbing the world’s highest mountain. “It was very hard both physically and mentally,” he says. But he feels very satisfied with the result and the publicity that came from it both to himself and Greece. ”That was my message, Greeks can fly high,” he said after the fulfillment of his goal.
