Xstrata Greek Fest is coming on Oct. 13-14 to Riverway Park, in Kirwan, Townsville and offers visitors the chance to embrace Greek and Australian cultures over a weekend of non-stop entertainment, cuisine, music and dance.
More than 40,000 people are expected to attend, taking part in dancing, grape-stomping and olive spitting competitions, Greek cooking demonstrations and the Agora marketplace and even try their hand at a plate-smashing challenge.
Xstrata aims at providing the North Queensland region with the experience of Greek culture, including a bustling marketplace selling traditional Greek food, such as olives, cheese, pastas and sweet treats. Greek dancers will be on stage as visitors will have the chance to enjoy a cooking demonstration and taste the art of Greek cuisine.
With carnival rides, side shows and children’s activities aplenty, the 2012 Xstrata Greek Festival offers an enjoyable weekend for all ages. The festival is a free to the public, family-friendly event.
