A Greek-Australian family, who worked and lived as volunteers in Hong Kong for five years, just arrived back to Australia. Jim and Eleni Motti, originating from Kythera, Greece, gave up their careers and took their two children to the Chinese city as part of the Crossroads Foundation charity’s drive to help the underprivileged.
The group, one of the biggest and most important foundations in Australia, offers help in the form of clothing, books, food etc to other poorer countries and relies on volunteers.
The family set off for the journey with money to cover their needs for three months. Soon the first three months passed, and another three came, until they had spent five full years in Hong Kong. They said the experience was rewarding and helped improve many lives.
