Politics seem to come natural to Greeks no matter where they are. Almost 60 Greek-Australians are running in this year’s Victoria council elections which take place in October.
In total, 2,004 candidates from all over the county are claiming a place among the 631 seats of council advisers. In some regions, where the Greek community has a strong presence, Greek-Australian candidates are more in number than all other participants.
The municipality of Darebin has seven Diaspora Greek candidates, Stonington municipality (three of whom have the same surname, Athanasopoulos), and the municipality of Mona has seven candidates of Greek origin.
