Garry Brewster did not hesitate for a moment when he found out a four-year-old boy was trapped inside a burning house in Mulgrave, Victoria. He was passing by when he heard Vicki Dotas crying out in frustration that one of her children was left behind.
The fire broke out at the house of Vicky and Konstantinos Dotas and their seven children. The mother rushed out with one of her twins as soon as she realized the house was on fire but the other child, George, tried to hide under the bed.
Brewster broke one of the windows and jumped inside to save him as flames roard. The family thanked him for his heroic action.
The house was uninsured and nothing survived the flames except he wedding crown case and a personal photo. With both parents unemployed, the Dotas are now asking for the community and the social services to help them and their children find a place to live. The family migrated to Australia in 1992 and the children are aged from 4 to 19. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
