Melbourne Greeks Mark 100th Year of Thessaloniki Liberation

Greek Australians have never forgotten their roots, their history or culture and those in Melbourne are organizing a public lecture to celebrate the centenary of the liberation of Thessaloniki in 1912 from the Ottomans. The lecture will be held on Sept. 30 at the Melbourne Town Hall.

The speaker will be Katia Zikou, President of the Thessaloniki Association of Melbourne, called The White Tower after the famous landmark of Greece’s second-largest city.

The Florinian Choir of Melbourne will perform under music director Elizabeth Exintaris and the Greek dance group OPA will perform regional folk dances. Admission to this event is free and open to all.

The lecture will be presented in Greek with English translation on screen and will begin at 5 p.m. the Swanston Hall, of the Melbourne Town Hall, on the ground floor on the corner of Swanston and Collins Streets.
